Service overview

Landscaping in Nottinghamshire — what you actually get.

What it is

Complete domestic landscaping: patios, pathways, driveways, retaining walls, raised beds, lawns (turf or seed), planting schemes and full garden redesign. We handle the whole build — design, excavation, drainage, sub-base, hard landscaping, soft landscaping and snagging — under one roof.

Who it's for

Homeowners who want their garden to actually be used. People tired of looking at a patchy lawn and a slab of cracked concrete patio. Anyone planning to sell who knows kerb appeal sells houses faster than a fresh kitchen.

When you need it

Spring through autumn is ideal for soft landscaping; hard landscaping happens year-round.

Why it matters

Most failed patios fail underneath, not on top. Pavers crack because the sub-base wasn't compacted properly. Lawns die because drainage was an afterthought. We build the bottom 200mm right so the top inch lasts for decades.

What happens if you wait

The real cost of leaving it.

A bad landscaping job hides for one summer and reveals itself for the next twenty. The cheap quote is rarely cheap by year three.

Risks of leaving it

  • Settling slabs that puddle every time it rains.
  • Pointing that crumbles after a single frost cycle.
  • Walls leaning out and bowing within five years.
  • Lawns failing because nobody addressed underlying drainage.
  • Drainage that floods kitchens via the back door because levels were wrong by 20mm.

Common mistakes we see

  • Laying slabs on dabs of wet mortar instead of a full bed on a compacted MOT sub-base.
  • Skipping geotextile membrane and getting a weed forest under the patio in three years.
  • Building retaining walls without proper drainage behind — hydrostatic pressure pushes them out.
  • Choosing slabs by photo without considering frost-resistance grade for the UK climate.

Our process

How we deliver — step by step.

  1. 1

    Free Design Consultation

We visit, measure, and listen to how you want to use the space. Free, no obligation.

  2. 2

    Detailed Itemised Quote

You receive a clear, itemised written quote.

  3. 3

    Site Preparation

We prepare the ground properly and lay a solid, compacted base before any paving or turf goes down.

  4. 4

    Hard Landscaping

Patios, paths, walls, edging — laid on full mortar beds, jointed properly with resin or mortar pointing, levels checked at every stage.

  5. 5

    Soft Landscaping & Sign-Off

Turf laid on prepared topsoil and planting installed. We walk the finished garden with you and snag everything that needs attention.

What you get

The benefits — in plain English.

Built once, lasts decades

Proper sub-base and drainage means the garden looks as good in year ten as it does in year one.

One team for the whole build

Excavation, drainage, hardscape, softscape — same crew throughout. No handovers, no finger-pointing.

Designed for how you'll actually use it

We design around dinner parties, kids, dogs, low maintenance — not what looks photogenic in a brochure.

Material choice that suits the climate

Frost-rated porcelain, riven Indian sandstone, granite setts — we choose what survives Nottinghamshire winters.

Adds kerb appeal

A well-built garden adds real kerb appeal and can help your home sell.

Proper snag & hand-over

We walk the finished garden with you and address anything that needs attention before sign-off.

The detail that matters

Landscaping: materials, methods & specifications.

Landscaping is a stack of decisions made in sequence. Get the early ones wrong and no amount of nice slabs will save the project.

Patios

Indian sandstone, Yorkstone, porcelain (Bradstone, Marshalls, Stonemarket) and natural granite. Always laid on full mortar bed over compacted MOT Type 1 — never on five dabs and a prayer.

Paths & driveways

Block paving, resin-bound, gravel-bound and natural stone setts. Driveways require proper sub-base depths (150mm+) and edge restraint.

Retaining walls

Brick, block, dry-stone, gabion and timber sleeper. All built with proper drainage behind (perforated pipe, free-draining backfill) to prevent hydrostatic failure.

Lawns

Turf or seed onto prepared and graded topsoil. We assess soil drainage before laying — if it doesn't drain, we French-drain it first.

Planting & beds

Structured planting schemes — evergreen backbone, seasonal interest, low-maintenance perennials. Raised beds in timber, brick or sleeper.

Drainage

Soakaways, French drains, channel drains and re-grading. We've fixed dozens of gardens whose previous 'landscaper' just laid over a drainage problem.

Fencing & garden structures

Fencing, gates, pergolas, archways. We also handle decking, gazebos and garden rooms ourselves for fully integrated builds.

Whether it's a small courtyard refresh in Nottingham or a full half-acre redesign in Edwinstowe, we'll build it once, properly, with paperwork to match.

FAQ

Honest answers, before you call.

How much does a typical patio cost?

+

Every job is priced individually and quoted in writing after a free inspection — get in touch for a quote.

Do you handle the design as well as the build?

+

Yes — initial design and material choice are included free with any quote.

When is the best time of year for landscaping?

+

Hard landscaping (patios, walls, paths) is year-round. Turf is best laid spring or autumn. Planting prefers autumn for establishment. We book up fastest March-July.

Do you take away the old patio/garden?

+

Yes — excavation, waste removal and licensed tip disposal are included in every quote. You won't have a skip parked for weeks.

Do you stand behind the work?

+

Yes — we walk every finished install with you, snag anything that needs attention, and stay in touch if anything needs a second look.

Can you do just one element (just the patio, just a wall)?

+

Absolutely. We're happy to take on single-element jobs as well as full garden builds.

How do you handle drainage and water issues?

+

Properly — we assess drainage at the survey stage and install soakaways, French drains or channel drains as part of the build. We never lay hard surfaces over a drainage problem.
